A Watershed Coordinator is a person responsible for organizing watershed planning, education, and implementation for the protection and restoration of local water resources. This challenging task is accomplished by networking with agencies, organizations and citizens to develop effective watershed management plans and sustained long-term local efforts aimed at yielding clean rivers, streams and lakes. Benefits of watershed planning can include improved surface and ground water quality, reduced risk of flooding, enhanced recreation potential, and improved community health. In May of 2009, the Wolf Creek Watershed Based Plan was approved by the Environmental Protection Agency, making the Plateau Action Network eligible to receive federal funding through the Clean Water Act.

My interest in aquatic ecology research has taken me from the headwaters of the Columbia River (Oregon), through the drainages of Glacier National Park (Montana), and to tropical stream environments in Puerto Rico. During the last six years I have had the opportunity to work in several fields, including: aquatic ecology, biological monitoring, stream survey, and geospatial technology. Forming this multi-disciplinary background has prepared me for the challenges that exist when implementing a watershed based plan. I look forward to the long-term commitment of removing Wolf Creek from West Virginia’s 303(d) list, and I’m excited to be serving the New River Gorge community.
